A Russian missile hit a crowded shopping centre in the central Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk on Monday, killing and injuring scores of people, Ukrainian authorities said. Ukraine’s president, Volodoymyr Zelenskiy, said more than 1,000 people were inside the building at the time of the strike. Images from the scene showed giant plumes of black smoke and flames, with emergency crews rushing in to search for victims and put out fires. Leaders around the world have denounced Russia’s deadly strike as 'abominable' and a war crime. Russia claims, without evidence, that it targeted weapons located next to the mall.

CCTV footage showed panic in a park in the Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk on Monday, moments after a shopping centre nearby was hit by a Russian missile strike. The location of the video was verified by the nearby buildings and roads which matched satellite and file imagery of the park in Kremenchuk. A day after the attack in which at least 18 people were killed, the city of Kremenchuk in central Ukraine declared a day of mourning and fire fighters cleared away rubble. Russia claimed the incident was caused by a strike on a legitimate military target.
