Cuban State Security attempts against the life of Cuban opposition leader Guillermo Fariñas. By Eva Belfrage November 26, 2014
On Tuesday the 25th of November the group that Guillermo Fariñas leads in Santa Clara, FANTU affiliated to the national opposition movement UNPACU, for which he is also a spokesperson, met at his home. 34 members were assembled, when suddenly a man, who according to Farinas is an ex member, enters the house and asks about the situation of visas to the US and suddenly takes out a knife from his pocket and tries to attack Fariñas. Fantu members try to protect Fariñas and take the knife from the man and are attacked. A woman also member of the Ladies in White was hit with the knife very close to the heart and ended up in hospital, was saved from a heart respiratory failure and is now in a very serious and life threatening condition.
After wounding another four persons, the man leaves the house shouting murder threats and is seen going to the security police, who patches his shoulder in a friendly way and let him enter a white Lada and drives him away.
The Sajarov prize awarde Guillermo Fariñas, who thanks to his friends was not hurt, and his group have denounced the murder attempt at the local police. But the next day the man was seen roaming around in a park with a bottle of alcohol and has not been arrested.
Guillermo Fariñas has lately been under fierce attacks on internet by the Cuban State Security. The blog where he publishes has been hacked and false articles in his name have been published. They have also opened a false Twitter account and a false Facebook page in his name, where strange statements against other dissidents and opponents are published. Just a few days earlier Fariñas alerted that these acts and other signals, made him think that they would soon make attempts against his life.
In Santiago de Cuba a similar thing happened at another meeting of a group of UNPACU members and against the leader and founder of the movement Jose Daniel Ferrer, but the members present managed to unarm the attacker and frustrate the attack.
The Castro regime is evidently trapping up the violence against the opposition, but intelligently using infiltratörs or civilians with criminal, violent or disturbed background to be responsible for the crimes. This has happened several times before and is a method used by the Cuban State Security.
For more details about the attack against Fariñas, the names etc we refer to our publications on the Spanish page of CDV.org and to UNPACU, Diario de Cuba, Martí Noticias and Cubanet.
